We have all been there; Love Sick! The third studio album from Don Toliver comes as a welcomed gift of solidarity to many, and an antidote of acceptance to others, but whatever the case, it’s a pure genius injection to what’s been missing from r&b. Don Toliver is a marksman of precision on his execution of delivering on-time hits that are well received by the culture. His creativity and ingenuity makes Don Toliver the go-to source for therapy of the mind and soul.
Reigning for H-Town, Don Toliver is simply the innovator of meaningful r&b soul that’s sure to raise two questions; how did you get there, and now that you’ve arrived at your emotional destination, where do you go from there? On his 2021 LP, ‘Life Of A Don’, Don Toliver delivered a smooth collection of hip-hop collabs that captured the hearts and minds of many fans with hits such as ‘Get Throwed’, ‘You’, and my favorite track, ‘Swangin’ on Westheimer’, were cult classics that set the streets on fire. Being a former Houstonian myself, I personally felt connected and will always hold Don Toliver responsible for many nights of wondrously staring at the glass half empty, knowing damn well it was full the whole time!
“Love Sick”, is a subtle twist from ‘Life Of A Don’. The album, released on Cactus Jack Records via Atlantic Records is a complete project that solicits musical production from heavyweights such as Wheezy, James Blake, OZ, Hit-Boy, Dez Wright, Keytranad, and Boi-1da. The feature list includes r&b legend Charlie Wilson, Toro Y Moi, Wizkid, Future, GloRilla, Kali Uchis, Lil Durk Tisakorean and Justin Bieber.
The tracklist is crazy, on the previously released anthem ‘Leave The Club’, Don Toliver collabs with Lil Durk and Glorilla for a certified banger. But the real jewel on the album is the collaboration with Justin Bieber and Future on the track, ‘Private Landing’, which features the production of Omar Guetfa, Rob Bisel, 206Derek and Cardo.
The album is accompanied by a short film that is available on Amazon directed by Alexandre Moors. ‘Love Sick’, includes a feature from his significant other Kali Uchis on “4 Me”. The entire album is a jewel straight outta the H.
