Total domination! The LSU Lady Tigers are National Champions. The feat is the first NCAA basketball Championship win for the program ever. The Tigers’ first team all-American Angel Reese was a huge difference maker with 15 points and 10 rebounds as she set an NCAA single-season record with 34 double-doubles. Angel Reese was named the Final Four MVP.
The win was an collaborative effort with all five starters recording a double figure effort. Jasmine Carson contributed 21 first-half points, and ended with 22 total.
Iowa, and their star player Caitlin Clark began the game red hot; however, she fizzled out in the second-half, and ended the game with 30 points. Far below her last three game average of 38.9. Clark struggled in the second half with a record high six turnovers and found herself in constant foul trouble.
The Iowa Hawkeyes gave a valant fight in the second half with a 15-2 run; however with both Clark and Monika Czinano in foul trouble, the offense fire power ran out. The Tigers’ 102 points was the most scored ever in a women’s basketball national championship game.
Coach Kim Mulkey, now 60-years is now one of only three coaches with four national championships, which include Geno Auriemma and Pat Smith.
