These days the Windy City has become a mecca for churning out talented musicians with a cause. Understandably so, the Chi (pronounced CHY) is famously known for producing some of the most prolific artists in history. Those sentiments are well deserved and accepted by the Chicago hip-hop duo Angry Blackmen. Since 2016, Quentin Branch and Brian Warren have been delivering their unique brand of classic hip-hop on their own terms. Just this week, Angry Blackmen released the single “Stanley Kubrick”, from their upcoming new album, ‘The Legend of ABM’, due out Jan. 26th, on Deathbomb Arc.
“Stanley Kubrick” the lead single, comes as an introduction to some, but to fans of Angry Blackmen, the song is excellence on steroids. The duo wastes no time taking turns on the track, which is hypnotizing. As cliche as it may sound, “there is nothing scarier than a black man that is angry”, produced by Formants, the track pounds with Quentin and Brian delivering knowledge that reads like a vindication for wrongs inflicted on the black man for centuries. From first listen, the average fan may try to find a comparison……….. I’ll wait! (crickets) You will find none! Angry Blackmen is the truth, literally!
The visuals directed by Jon Le Vert for Blackstone Avenue Productions fit ABM exactly. The clever concept fits like a glove to the lyrics to “Stanley Kubrick”. Imagine walking into a dim lit parking garage to see Quentin and Brian dressed in all black with an attitude! If you are upright, you will stand to hear the message; however, if you are suspect in character, you’re gonna run like hell in fear of Angry Blackmen. The title, “Stanley Kubrick” couldn’t have been more accurate of the song’s content. The real-life Stanley Kubrick passed away in 1999, renowned as perhaps the best film director in cinematography history.
ABM makes it clear, “we’re just trying to survive”! From all indicators, “Stanley Kubrick”, will serve as the perfect prelude to the upcoming studio album, The Legend of ABM. Rumored to be an 11-track infusion of real hip-hop, tantalizing production, and knowledge, we can’t wait to hear what the Angry Blackmen has to say! “The Legend of ABM” album will solidify Angry Blackmen’s place in hip-hop supremacy.
