Colorado Buffaloes Shock nation as Coach Prime promised in opening game vs No. 17 TCU

“Y’all didn’t believe, but God did!” ~ Coach Prime told reporters after his Colorado Buffaloes pulled off one of the biggest upsets ever to open a college football season. As a matter of fact, the 45-42 win over TCU drew scary similarities of when the unranked Appalachian State Mountaineers marched into the Big House of the Michigan Wolverines and snuck out with a 34-32 win in 2007.

The stage was set; it couldn’t have been a more appropriate atmosphere under the bright skies of Amon G. Carter Stadium, nestled on the campus of Texas Christian University. The TCU crowd was ready in anticipation of their fully loaded Horn Frogs and the arrival of Coach Prime and his mysterious Buffaloes. With a record attendance of nearly 53k, the game kicked off. On the opening drive, it was clear, not only to TCU, but the Nation that Mr. Deion Sanders had something special, and they are for real! The Real Deal Holyfield!

From the opening, one could feel the confidence and bravado of the Colorado Buffaloes. The Buffalo players possessed a look in their eyes of pure determination. The determination soon turned into domination. From the line of scrimmage, the Buffaloes couldn’t be stopped. Through the air, QB Shedeur Sanders had a field day, 38 of 47 passing with 4 100-yard receivers on the way to 510 yards and 4-touchdowns. The feat broke the Colorado single-game record for passing yards.

Two-way star player Travis Hunter solidified his bid to be one of the Heisman final four candidates with an amazing performance. Believe the hype, this kid is solid! Hunter on offense had 11 catches for 119-yards and a game defining interception on defense. At halftime, Coach Prime mentioned that the Heisman Trophy would have been at his (Travis Hunter) house awaiting him if the Buffaloes had connected with him on two attempts earlier in the half. The receiving core of Jimmy Horn Jr., Travis Hunter, Dylan Edwards, and Xavier Weaver all hauled in over 100-yards each for the Buffaloes.

While the headlines will focus on the pure domination of offensive weapons on offense, there is a lot to be said about both the offense and defensive line. The lines on both sides of the ball held their own and performed their jobs to perfection. The attenuation to detail, precision, and commitment to assignment is a true trademark of Deion Sanders. Hat’s off to the Colorado Buffaloes and the entire staff, players, and family. A new frontier is Born!

The game itself, Colorado vs. TCU was the marquee match-up of Saturdays’ busy slate of football. As advertised, the game lived up to the billing. The TCU Horned Frogs answered every punch the Buffaloes threw at them; however, in the end, it wasn’t in the cards. The TCU Horned Frogs are known for their high powered, scoring at will offense; however, their Achilles heel is on the defensive end of the ball. Simple and plain, they can’t stop anyone. If TCU is going to salvage this long college season, they must come up with a strategy to defend the offensive efforts, or every game will be a nail-biter with each opposing team in the game to the end
