Regarded as one of the most Iconic bands to ever grace a stage, Depeche Mode is back! The English rock band, who began their journey nearly 45-years ago is going strong and has just released their lead off single, “Ghosts Again”, from their upcoming album, ‘Momento Mori.’
In the years, the lineup has changed, but one thing remains; the Depeche Mode signature sound is intact, but with a twist. From the sound of things, “Ghost Again” is the introduction of a new sound from the band. If the single “Ghost Again”, is any indication of what we can expect from the ‘Momento Mori’ album, we are in for a treat. Depeche Mode consists of Dave Gahan on lead vocals and Martin Gore as the co-lead. Just last year, founding member Andy Fletcher passed, which left many Depeche Mode fans wondering if the band would continue. The answer is a resounding, Yes!
With a total of 14 studio albums, ‘Momento Mori’ will be the band’s 15th, spanning 4 decades of greatness. The release date for the album is slated for March 24th, with the Momento Mori Tour in support kicking off in early March. “Ghosts Again”, is the perfect single in lieu of anticipation and will give Depeche Mode fans reasons to be excited. Dave Gahan stated on the band’s official website that “Ghosts Again” is the balance of melancholy and joy. The video depicts a high stakes game of chess that revolves around the ransom of your soul. Dressed in all black cloaks, Gahan and Gore are up against a decision, is the price worth paying?
After being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020, and labeled as one of the 50 bands that changed the World, Depeche Mode has solidified its place in history. The anticipation for ‘Momento Mori’ is at a feverish pitch with fans thirsting for its arrival. Although the album was recorded during the pandemic, Fletcher didn’t contribute. The band made the decision to complete the album after Fletcher’s untimely death.
