The hottest ticket in the country belonged to the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday. As early as 5pm, members of the press, celebrities, and the biggest names in politics began lining the red carpet to the star studded event hosted at Washington’s Hilton.
The black-tie gala aimed at raising funds for the White House Correspondents’ Association scholarship fund is the ultimate opportunity for journalists and politicians to mingle and converse. Hosted by Comedy Central’s Comedian Roy Wood Jr., the night was action packed, informative, and full of hilarious moments from start to finish.
The White House Correspondents’ dinner main focus was the celebration of journalists for their work and dedication in the past year covering the White House and coverage of pressing issues that matter to the American Public. Several journalists from CNN, Politico, and other news organizations were honored during the dinner. President Biden, while applauding the works of the journalist, didn’t miss out on the chance to poke a little fun at their sometimes direct line of questioning. President Biden went on to say, “the pillar of a free society, not the enemy, Journalism is not a crime.”
Celebrities and entertainers from all walks came out for the dinner, which included the likes of Julia Fox, Rosario Dawson, Ego Nwodim, Liev Schreiber, Winnie Harlow, Angelica Ross, Gayle King, Ke Huy Quan, James Austin Johnson, Sunny Hostin, Billy Eichner, Brittney Griner, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Shumer, Chrissy Teigen, and singer John Legend to name a few.
As expected, President Joe Biden seized on the opportunity to express his sentiments on a wide range of topics from the release of wrongfully detained Americans abroad, the war in Ukraine, topical issues, Trump, and his reelection campaign priorities. With first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff in the crowded gala, President Biden vowed to continue to work on the issues, and make America the best economy in the World.
During his speech, Biden spoke about democracy and the important role the press play in securing the freedoms we as Americans enjoy everyday.
