Erykah Badu just keeps on pushing the envelope on creativity! And rightfully so, Ms. Badu is a verifiable staple in the hip-hop community that demands respect. From the beginning of her career, Erykah Badu has symbolized empowerment and what it means to be a black woman in America, and we respect her unequivocally for that! Last week, she announced her upcoming “Unfollow Me” North American tour to begin in San Antonio, Texas this summer.
The “Unfollow Me” tour will be a 25-city run tour that will feature Yasiin Bey, formerly known in the hip-hop world as Mos Def. The North Texas Queen of Neo-Soul is set to spread the energy beginning in San Antonio, Texas on June 11th, and working her way through Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Colorado, Minnesota, New York, Virginia, DC, North Carolina, and Atlanta before ending in her hometown of Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center on July 23rd.
The unapologetic singer is no stranger to fighting for equality. Recently, Erykah Badu called out right-wing racistS for their opposition of the “Woke” slogan. “It doesn’t belong to us anymore,” said Badu of “woke,” which was partially popularized by her use of the term in 2008’s “Master Teacher” song. The Grammy-Winning Badu recently spoke on social media, addressing how the term is viewed in the eyes of conservatives.
From political figures such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump, the term has been deemed as negative.
San Antonio, Texas, a diverse city with a heavy hispanic population 64.5%, the Alamo city is the perfect place for the “Unfollow Me” tour to kick off. The seventh largest, San Antonians enjoy affordable living, family friendly activities, and a love of the arts. Many San Antonians share progressive views on equal rights, and cherish the point of views of others.
The “Unfollow Me” tour is set to ascend on the AT&T Center on June 11th, to a sold out arena.
