From Grammy’s to Half-pipe’s, Lil Wayne is Now Officially a Professional Skateboarder

The year was 2008, and Cash Money Records artist Lil Wayne had the world in a choke hold with his #1 mega-hit “A Milli”. It was shortly after the video for the single was released that the world began to see Lil Wayne’s passion for skateboarding. In 2008, there were clips roaming YouTube of Lil Wayne talking to a board, but no one, and I do mean no one thought he was serious. Years passed, but fans kept seeing Lil Wayne in circles with skaters and the young rapper began embellishing the look. To the average fan, “Where is he going with this”, many murmured as we thought it was some kind of fad or something we thought was the flavor of the month. Little did we know that Lil Wayne was serious for his love of skateboarding?

Fast forward 15-years later, Lil Wayne was surprised over the holiday weekend with his very own signature ‘Pro Model’ skateboard by his videographer Phil Lopez for Young Money Skate and a host of professional skateboarders; Yosef Ratleff, Keelan Dadd and Torey Pudwill. The moment signifies Lil Wayne’s induction as a professional skateboarder. With over 10+ years practicing his craft, it’s well overdue. The Skateboard comes courtesy of Torey, owner of Thank You Skate Co., who knocked the design out of the park with an embedded photo of Weezy as a child along with some of his dopest lyrics.

The signature skateboard was actually a Christmas gift; however, Phil Lopez decided to share it with Weezy publicly as a way to commemorate his achievement and dedication to the craft of skateboarding.  The year 2022 has been overwhelming for Weezy, in which he has accumulated numerous awards and honors, which includes his 2008 single, “Lollipop” reaching the all prestigious status of “Diamond”.  The covenant “Diamond” status is a prestigious club of artists certified by the RIAA, which verifies a song that has gone platinum 10 times. (10,000,000 albums or streams).

With Lil Wayne officially becoming a professional skateboarder, it only validates his position as one of the most fascinating icons of our generation.
