What started out as a game, turned into what many would call a referendum for truth! The SEC is head and shoulders above the other conferences. The Georgia Bulldogs took the field and the game in the opening minutes of the first quarter. To be quite honest, the match-up appeared one sided at the coin toss!
At half-time, the game was out of hand with Georgia sporting a 31-point lead. Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennet threw for four touchdowns with 304 yards. TCU’s quarterback and Heisman finalist, Max Duggan in comparison only amassed 152 -yards with two interceptions. As a matter of fact, it was probally the worst performance by a starting quarterback and Heisman finalist in a National Championship game.
The Bulldogs showed the world that the winning pedigree at Georgia was no fluke! Georgia is now the first team to win back-to-back championships since Alabama, and the first since the College Football Playoff system started as we know it. The Bulldogs finished off the perfect season with a stifling defense which held the Horned Frogs to a dismal 188-yards from scrimmage. On the other side of the ball, Georgia scored on 10 of 12 total possessions, making it one of the most dominating performances ever in a National Championship. Georgia 58-point margin definitely set records for the most lopsided win in a bowl game.
For the hardware ceremony, Stetson Bennett was awarded the offensive MVP of the National Championship Game for the second consecutive year, with defensive back Javon Bullard taking home the defensive MVP trophy for his fumble recovery and two interceptions.
