With less than 30 days until the midterm elections on November 8, the nation has never been so divided on issues that affect everyday citizens. The midterms, is exactly what the name implies, it’s the halfway point of the current President’s tenure, and often seen as the benchmark of democracy. In recent months’, President Joe Biden has seen a slight rise in his poll numbers; however, with an impending depression on the rise, many speculate his numbers can dip below the danger point.
The midterms also serve as a general election in which state legislatures, governor’s offices and all seats of the House and Senate will be up for grabs. The year 2022, will serve as one of the most important elections in recent history! The stakes are high, not only for key positions in the legislature, but also for the Presidency in 2024.
But why is the State of Georgia on everyone’s mind?
The answer is simple, Georgia is considered as the heart of the Old Confederacy, and the results of the midterm elections in the state will paint the political landscape going into 2024. The results of the midterms in Georgia will move mountains in other States where Republican candidates up against re-election or thoughts of running will make their decisions. For many, the outcome in Georgia will either give the Republican Party hope of regaining control of either the House or Senate, or seal their fate into another four years under Democratic control. Either way it goes, Georgia will play a prominent role in the midterms for all candidates, no matter party or affiliation.
The 2022 midterm elections will mark the first election since the gruesome attack on democracy at the US Capital, sparking a flurry of investigations and insight committees that has rocked the Nation. The legitimacy of the democratic process in which votes are counted and tabulated was under subjection and scrutiny in many sectors, both statewide and on the federal level. When the smoke cleared, President Biden was awarded the Presidency as it was declared the election was valid and he was sworn into office on January 20, 2021, as the 46th President of the United States.
The State of Georgia has 16 electors, that’s more than all but seven states, which for the most part has been under Republican control prior to 2020. Not since Bill Clinton in 1992, had a Democrat come close to winning Georgia. But times have changed, and every election since the Democrats has been slowly gaining ground largely in part of Atlanta’s diverse population growth. Georgia, once a slam dunk for Republicans has now become a purple state which can go either way, depending on the political climate. If history repeats itself, the Democrats will confirm a clean sweep of the Peach State, which will seal the Republicans fate. Trust me, all eyes are on Georgia!
With less than 30 days left before voters go to the polls, the race in Georgia for the U.S. Senate is close with Democratic Incumbent Raphael Warnock with a 5+ point lead on Republican candidate Herschel Walker. Warnock has a 42% favorability opinion by Georgians, with Walker holding steady at 40%, which could spell trouble for the Republicans. With only three weeks left, it is unknown if there will be a shift, or will undecided conservatives show up. Who knows?
In the Gubernatorial race, Incumbent Republican Governor Brian Kemp is holding steady with a 50% to 45% lead over Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams. If the norm is followed by recent voting trends, the win will reside with the incumbents. With President Biden’s approval rating hovering around 40%, amongst Georgians, it will be interesting how the results in the midterm elections in the State of Georgia shape the landscape for the rest of the country.
So What are the Key Issues, and What’s at stake?
- Former President Donald J. Trump; Will he Run?
- Abortion rights?
- President Joe Biden; Will he Run Again?
- Presidential Hopefuls, Who’s up to Bat?
- State of the Economy, and going forward
