Guess Who’s Back? Former U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson Contemplates  making Historic Run to Reclaim Conservative Leadership

Don’t call it a comeback, Boris Johnson has been there for years. Literally! Only seven-weeks after he was forced to step down from his two year stint as Prime Minister, Boris Johnson is back in the U.K. drumming up support from the Conservative members of Parliament in an attempted political comeback.

However, to be a valid candidate to be the nominee for the Prime Minister, one must clear the 100 nomination threshold to appear on the ballot.  The only visible contender who has such nominations are the Former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak. At this juncture, Sunak has not made a declaration of his intentions to run for the seat.

With the resignation from Prime Minister Liz Truss just six weeks ago, the Conservative Party found itself in the daunting position of once again searching for a leader.  From failed economic policies to a non-existent public support, the U.K. has been wheeling into despair after the death of her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. However, Boris Johnson comes with a cloud of uncertainty and concern for many as well. Boris Johnson announced his resignation nearly 4 months ago following the resignation of key deputies amidst a series of scandals which included mishandling of a sexual misconduct situation and the handling of business during the Covid-19 pandemic.

At this time it is unclear if Boris Johnson has the 10o nominations needed to deem himself eligible for the nomination. Upon hearing the news of Truss resignation, Boris cut his two-week vacation in the Dominican Republic short to race to London in search of his possibilities.  Boris Johnson must act fast, Monday at 2pm is the deadline to reach 100 nominations if he plans to attempt a second term as Prime Minister.  As of Saturday, neither Johnson nor Sunak appeared to have enough support to gain a majority of Conservative MPs. However, by default, it will probably come down to the top two vote-getters with an online ballot with 170k registered members of the Conservative Party voting to select a prime minister. Boris Johnson has a realistic fighter’s chance; let’s see what happens!!!
