Harvard University to offer ‘Taylor Swift and Her World’ course

Harvard University is considered the gold standard of higher education institutions in the United States based upon its influence, academic excellence, and reputation held throughout the world. Established in 1636, Harvard University has produced some of the nation’s top leaders and scholars to ever grace earth. With the requirements for acceptance for entering freshmen at a 4.18 GPA , in conjunction with a 35 ACT score, it is no wonder why only the best minds in the world make the 75th percentile. From Astrophysics to Anthropology, Harvard University provides a curriculum and program that prepares students to become all that they are, and then some.  As with many institutions of higher learning, Harvard also offers the study of African American culture, and now they offer a new course titled “Taylor Swift and Her World.”

Since 2006, Taylor Swift has been a staple of the culture and society by captivating the hearts and souls of many. With 13 studio albums since her self-titled debut album in 2006 (10 studio 4 pre-recorded), Taylor Swift has revolutionized popular culture with her songwriting, music, and the sheer ability to resonate with the world. In just a short time, Taylor Swift has become the admiration of a fanbase that is deeply devoted to her broad sense of being simply, Taylor. The course will take a deep look at how Swift’s influence and artistry has made a significant impact on the generation.

A well-known philanthropist, and supporter of the arts, Taylor Swift’s contributions to social causes and benefit relief events has raised millions throughout the years. From tornado disaster relief, to spearheading funds to education, Taylor Swift’s love for humanity has inspired others to educate and donate to causes around the globe. In addition to donating monetarily, Taylor Swift has a deep-rooted love for promoting children’s literacy and the act of volunteer service.

Harvard University plans to offer the “Taylor Swift and Her World” course was met with excitement as the 15 limited spots were filled in just 10-seconds. The course will be taught by English professor Stephanie L. Burt who is also a published poet and critic who believes, “Taylor Swift is someone who establishes complicated and changing relationships to the idea of Americanness and to the idea of white Americanness and of middle-class America. The “Taylor Swift and Her World” course will dissect the inner meanings of the stars’ hit recordings, poetry, and songwriting. The course will also study the reactions to her celebrity status, Southern texts, adulthood, and views on life. The focus will be a stark contrast between the evolution of such a major songwriter and the impact her music has made on the world.

With an estimated net worth exceeding $1 billion, Taylor Swift is ahead of her contemporaries when it comes to building relationships with her fan base. Recently, Taylor Swift set yet another milestone by being named by Spotify as the top artist of 2023 with 26+ billion streams.
