Jazmine Sullivan Offers Powerful Declaration of Courage to Till Movie | In Theatre’s Oct. 28

It’s always a pleasure to hear from the beautiful songstress Jazmine Sullivan, and this time she blesses us with a new ballad, “Stand Up.” The single comes as the prelude to the motion picture Till by director Chinonye Chukwu. The film premiered at the New York Film Festival and is set to premiere at theater’s nationwide starting October 28.

The film Till is the story about Mamie Till. Mamie became an activist in pursuit of justice after the lynching of her 14-year-old son, Emmett Till in 1955. Emmett Till was lynched by white supremacists for allegedly whistling at a white woman. In 1955, lynching’s were a common renegade form of justice of hate groups; however, it was Mamie Till’s move to insist the casket of her son remain open, so the world could see what was done to him.

Jazmine Sullivan’s “Stand Up” adds the exclamation point to the film, as her powerful voice, filled with vigor and determination leaves one with a feeling of courage. Produced and co-written by Dernst “D’mile” Emile II, “Stand Up” is a far cry from the norm. Stand Up is a song of liberation and power for those willing to fight for freedom and justice. The single is the first project from Jazmine Sullivan since her 2021 album Heaux Tales which scored her a Grammy Award for the Best R&B Album.

Stream the New Single “Stand Up,” and watch Till, starring Danielle Deadwyler, Frankie Faison, Haley Bennett and Whoopi Goldberg. Till was directed by Chinonye Chukwu, written by Michael Reilly, Keith Beauchamp, and Chukwu. Release date October 28 by United Artists.
