All hats off for Spaniard Jon Rahm! Jon Rahm just did the impossible, he added the Masters Tournament onto his impressive resume which makes for his second major championship. Coming into the tournament, Rahm was regarded as the No.1 golfer in the rankings after his win at the Memorial Tournament in 2020. Now it’s solidified with his win at the Masters!
There was something special in the air Sunday as Jon Rahm tee’d up. For one, Sunday April 9, would of marked Seve Ballesteros 66th birthday. Seve Ballesteros was Jon Rahm’s inspiration and mentor. 2023 symbolizesd the 40-year anniversary of Ballesteros second Masters title.
Jon Rahm victory Sunday was the sweetest tribute he could pay to his friend, and he did it in ephatic fashion. Rahm walked into Sunday trailing by 4, and just like magic he was in position to win approaching the 18th green. Rahm finished wih a 3-under 69 to pull away from the field adn Brooks Koepka who was right on his trail. But the story behind Rahm was Phil Mickelson who became the oldest runner-up in Masters history wih a 65.
The rain-delayed third round was were Rahm gained the final separation he needed to affirm his No. 1 spot in the world of golf in the eyes of most. With the win, Rahm has the U.S. Open title from 2021, and now the green jacket from Augusta.
Finishing at 12-under 276, Rahm stated, “It was a great Sunday”, a nod to his friend and mentor, Seve. After the tournament, Rahm stated, “I was nervous, and un eased”; however, the Spaniard was cool, calm and collected! Great Win!!
