Fresh off tour, Kali Uchis wasted no time as she released her new album “Orquídeas” on Friday. The “Orquídeas”, Kali Uchis fourth studio album is her second Spanish language project which follows her first “Sin Miedo” which produced the viral single ‘Telepatia’. While releasing her third studio album “Red Moon in Venus” less than a year ago, “Orquídeas” breaks away from her traditional neo-soul R&B sound and infuses cumbia, bolero, and reggaeton.
By all indications, it’s nice to see Kali Uchis in her element. Arguably, Kali Uchis is one of few artists who demands the right to expression and creativity without barriers. As the album title would imply, “Orquídeas” (Orchidaceae, Orchid plant) is a self-pollinated array of vibrant sounds that bleeds; happiness, romance, freedom, and the mantra of living life on one’s terms.
From the opening track ¿Cómo Así?, the energy continuously elevates as Kali Uchis takes listeners on an odyssey of Latin styles and sensual ballads that radiates a vibe. With collaborations from Rauw Alejandro, Karol G, Peso Pluma, El Alfa, and JT from City Girls, Kali Uchis has a flavor for everyone.
“Orquídeas” is a 14-track masterpiece that is undoubtedly Kali Uchis best project thus far. ~ Lamont “Renzo” Bracy.
Submissive, Inquisitive, and refreshing are just a few adjectives that come to mind while listening to “Orquídeas”! The track “Tu Corazón Es Mío” is a tone setting song that’s not only uplifting, but rings in a bond that’s shared amongst those in love. In ‘Labios Mordidos’, Kali Uchis and Karol G change the tempo with a reggaeton style track that is crazy, sexy, cool. On ‘Diosa’, Kali Uchis goes full princess as she expresses her desires to be showered with affection through indulgence, kindness, and spoiled attention.
With influences from the Dominican Republic and Colombia, “Orquídeas” combines all Latin America’s traditional sounds into a genre that can only be described as “Kali Uchis”.
