Ye’ goes full Commando! Kanye West, the most prolific entertainer of the 21st century proves, whatever he puts his hands on ….. turns to gold! Literally; Kanye West made it official as he styled the runway at the Spanish luxury house spring 2023 show at Paris Fashion Week. The futuristic runway was a futuristic backdrop that resembled a military course full of battle time terrain. Ye, equipped in a military styled jacket with black pants, made his way down the runway with the hood pulled up over his fitted cap.
Although Ye’ has designed and influenced Paris Fashion Week in years past, this was the first time the rapper took to the runway himself. Ye and Balenciaga director Demna are good friends, and a collaboration has been in the works for quite some time. The real-life apocalyptic set filled with mud and puddles, set the mood as a act of anti-war sentiment.
In Demna’s notes of the show, Demna described the dystopian muddy set, which included puddles and piles of sludge, as “a metaphor for digging for truth and being down to earth.” “I’ve decided to no longer explain my collections and verbalize my designs, but to express a state of mind,” the notes read. “I hate boxes and I hate labels… Individualism in fashion is downgraded to pseudo-trends dictated by a post in stories of some celebrity of the moment.”
As Ye’ opened the show, he was joined by models covered in mud adorned in similar designer fits which made the Balenciaga’s Apocalyptic SS23 truly fitting of the title. In addition, Bella Hadid took to the runway looking as if she had just escaped a war zone, bruised, covered with mud and battered with what appeared to be a baby sling strapped to her side.
Ye was joined by his children; however, there was no sign of Kim Kardashian, but Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian was in attendance. Alexa Demie, Salma Hayek, Christine Quinn, and Dr. Naomi Campbell were all in attendance.
