We all love ourselves some Keyshia Cole! And rightfully so, in the past decade we have all grown and walked aside her as she has taken on life head-on, and won! But all the real Keyshia Cole fans know she has fought through a tremendous amount of adversity and challenges. The one thing that separates Keyshia from the average, is that she resonates with REAL people.
Written by Angelica Cheri and directed by D’Angela Proctor and Manu Boyer, the biopic Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story is about Keyshia’s rise to fame from the streets of Oakland, California, to becoming one of the biggest stars in the world. Executive produced by Keyshia Cole, she will star as herself in the film. She is no stranger to the spotlight, in 2005 she starred in All of Us, and in 2007 she played herself in the film, How She Move. Keyshia Cole is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who released three consecutive albums and a consistent string of No.1 hits.
The biopic Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story’ will serve as a God Send to many females out there struggling with issues that touch the community. In the film, Keyshia is candid about her relationship with her mother. Keyshia Cole’s mother Frankie Lons, is played by Debbie Morgan in the film. Ms. Lons passed away in 2021. The film explores the complicated, but heartfelt relationship Keyshia Cole had with her mother and how the relationship molded her into the woman she is today. The courage it takes to share such an intimate moment is unparalleled in itself.
The opportunity to play herself in the biopic gives Keyshia Cole a unique retrospect of the memory and influence her mother has on her life. Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story will premiere on Lifetime on Saturday, June 24, 8 p.m. ET. The original score and music for the biopic is composed by Warryn Campbell along with co-executive producer Ron Fair.
Trust me, Keyshia Cole fans are in a frenzy over the biopic which is sure to be a blockbuster. Keyshia’s last album, “11:11 Reset”, was released in 2017 and debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart. With singles such as ‘You’, and ‘Incapable’, it was apparent that Keyshia Cole’s ability to resonate with women world-wide has experienced infidelity, volatility, and lack of confidence as a result.
