The buzz around the entertainment industry was made official Monday morning on Good Morning America; that’s right, the new version of Menudo has arrived. The 5-part boy band, introduced by collaborator icon Mario Lopez, graced the stage performing their first single, “Mi Amore.” The group consists of Ezra Gilmore, Alejandro Querales, Gabriel Rossell, Andres Emilio and Nicolas Calero, ranging from age 10 to 15.
The original Menudo was formed in Puerto Rico in 1977 by record producer Edgardo Diaz. The band, referred to as the “Most Iconic Latino Pop Band”, in the world went on to win the hearts of fans worldwide. Actor Mario Lopez was tapped to lead a reboot which began with auditions in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Lopez stated during his introduction of Menudo on Good Morning America that, “I thought it would be a great time at this moment to reintroduce them now to a whole new generation when Latin music is hot in the mainstream, we got a great group of kids right here.”
As far as his decision on the five young boys, Lopez explained, “it was harder than we ever imagined because there was so much great talent to choose from. The five boys we selected gelled together instantly, and the music they’ve created has exceeded all of our expectations. I think we have several massive hits, and I’m more excited than ever to introduce these boys to the world in two weeks.”
In addition to the Good Morning America performance, the group also debuted the music video to the single, “Mi Amore,” directed by Brian Bayerl. The song, recorded in both an English or Spanish version, is about moving on from a dead-end relationship.
The project, titled “Menudo: A New Beginning”, is intact and Menudo is officially ready to make their mark on the culture.
