To say Montreal born DJ Kid Koala is different would be an understatement! Since 1994, the Scratch Master as considered by many has revolutionized the art of DJing by doing it his way. After all these years, it’s a plus to see that hasn’t changed a bit. DJ Kid Koala has just released his new album, with a double vinyl version that transforms to a two-four player board game. Who does that? DJ Kid Koala, that’s who!
Should anyone be surprised? I think not, since the release of his first demo album in 1996 “Scratchcratchratchatch” DJ Kid Koala has been on a never ending crusade for greatness. With “Creatures of the Late Afternoon” we do believe he has reached the pinnacle of something special. Before we speak on the board game element, lets dive into the album and dissect its’ origins.
Once again, Kid Koala walks into the album with his unorthodox blend of genre’s, from 60’s doo wop, funk, dance and a electro-rock vibe that will definitely keep your head bobbin. The latest single from Creatures of the Late Afternoon, “Let’s Go!” is a high energy tune, cut up by yours truly (Kid Koala). The track puts you in the mind of a fast paced racing game, putting the listner behind the wheel to navigate fun, anyway they choose. The 20-track album is an amusement park of music that is welcomed, but unexpected! And that ladies and gentlemen, makes for one hell of a masterpiece. The album has two features, Coelacanth on ‘1000 Towns’, and Lealani on the high energy track ‘Things are Gonna Change’, in which Lealani chants like only she can… sexy, sassy, cool! The track pops.
As far as the board game, it’s an amazing game of match your pick of escentric musicians to create as many styles the heard desires. You are the creator, mixing and matching different music, musicians and genre’s to become a mix master of creativity. Pure Genuius! With cards like, “Flea Market”, “Workout song”, and “Life Experience”, the board is set for users to inject, not only emotions, but real-life as they navigate.
