New York Jets makes it official; aquire Aaron Rodgers from the Packers

The Jets and Packers have officially agreed in principle to a trade that sends legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers to New York. For what has seemed like a foregone conclusion for over a month now, was finally solidified Monday after both sides held tight to their demands.

As the smoke clears, the Jets will send their first round pick (13th), second round (42nd), and sixth round pick (207th) to the Packers. To round out the deal, the Packers will also receive the Jets second pick in 2024 as part of the blockbuster deal. The New York Jets on the other hand will receive the No. 15 pick and the 170th pick in this years draft along with Rodgers.

The trade is the official next chapter for the Green Bay Packers, and the end of Aaron Rodgers dominance which started in 2008. Aaron Rodgers spent his first three years in Green Bay backing up Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Farve. Since taking over, Aaron Rodgers has been regarded as one of the best to ever play the position winning the NFL’s Most Valuable Player 4x’s (2011, 2014, 2020, 2021), Super Bowl Champion (XLV), and Super Bowl MVP (XLV).

Rodgers joining the New York Jets makes the franchise a favorite to win the Super Bowl. Rodgers will trade his career No. 12 jersey in favor of his No. 8 college jersey in respect to the Hall of Fame Jets quarterback Joe Namath. Although, Joe Namath gave his blessing on his retired No. 12 jersey, Rodgers insisted he will play in his old Cal college jersey number. Who knows? The move might turn back the hands of time for Rodgers.

For the past month, it was stated by both camps that the deal would happen, but as time grew, so did the skepticism of a deal actually happening. With both teams with leverage, finding middle ground was going to take some give and take on both sides; however, the trade was made official on Monday, giving way to a new frontier in New York, and a breeze of fresh air for the Packers.

Now that the New York Jets have their man, let’s see if they can put the pieces around Aaron Rodgers that will result in a much needed Super Bowl.
