Just when you thought the gifted Oklahoma Sooners Women’s Gymnastics National Championship in 2022 was a fluke, or luck of the draw, they silenced all doubts by winning their second consecutive National Championship on Saturday. The Oklahoma Sooners Women’s Gymnastic team is without a doubt a dynasty. The win Saturday gives the Lady Sooners program their sixth national championship in the last ten years.
The Lady Sooners posted a 198.3875 score to edge out a very good Florida team. OU led every step of the way with a consistent 9.9 throughout the four rotation leading to the final stanza. Florida finished second behind a record setting showing by sensation Trinity Thomas who tied her all-time record with an amazing 28th perfect-10. It was an amazing night for NCAA Women’s Gymnastics. The Lady Utes of Utah had a great showing in third place, followed by the Lady Tigers of LSU in fourth.
The Lady Sooners needed everything in the gas tank, and once again, they prevailed. The Sooners finished just 0.15 ahead of Trinity Thomas and the Gators. Olivia Trautman, scored an unbeleivable 9.95 on the uneven bars and the vault, and both Audrey Davis and Jordan Bowers also turned in a 9.95 on the balance beam and floor routine, respectively.
The program has accumulated 13 Big-12 Championships since 2004, with 12 under head coach K.J. Kindler and assistant coaches Lou Ball and Tom Hale.
