Paying Homage to the Ladies of Hip-Hop, Female M.C.’s Wave of the Future

It’s about time! Since the inception, hip-hop has been a male dominated genre, and rightfully so! From that day in 1973,  August 11th to be exact, when DJ Kool Herc block party in Brooklyn, NY set the wheels in motion, DJ’s and MC’s have paved the way to the state we are today. But we are here today to pay homage to the female M.C’s that have treaded their own track and by laymen terms, are damn right successful.  Women has been on the fore front since the beginning as rappers, producers, emcees and pioneers in the industry.

Female MC’s are continuing to rock the modern culture. As a matter of fact, five of the ten highest grossing artist in the industry are women.  Sexy, Sassy and always Classy, female rappers deliver a wide array of styles, fashion and energy that comes off raw and unapologetic.

Women in hip-hop are now on the top of Billboard charts. The success signifies a transition from a male dominated genre, to a diverse climate with women in the forefront.  With a passing of the baton from decade to decade, female rappers are defining the culture in hip-hop by challenging the pre-conceived norms.  Thanks to the early female pioneers, a lane has been opened for up and coming female MC’s all over the world.

Today, ProMediaBank salutes the Ladies of Hip-hop and the contributions they’ve made to the Culture!!
