PMB Reviews Legendary producer of West Coast sound, Chris “The Glove” Taylor   Redshirt Freshman LP’

To understand the current state of WestCoast hip-hop, you would have to take it back to the early 90’s. The WestCoast is known for its lolo’s and fire weed, but it’s the producers that created the vibe we have grown to love and cherish. Meet DJ Chris “The Glove” Taylor! A legendary pioneer who is behind many of the records that have come out of Deathrow, Ruthless and Aftermath that has spurned the careers of some of the biggest names in rap. It comes as an honor and privilege to ProMediaBank to review Chris “The Glove” Taylor’s upcoming LP, Redshirt Freshman.

We caught up with “ChrisGlove” Taylor in Pasadena last month and he explained, “Redshirt Freshman is a fresh new era of style; however, it gives an ode to the days of the Deathrow era”. And yes, it is! On the lead single, ‘Cahuenga Boulevard’ ChrisGlove displays the full arsenal of production and flow as he takes you on a journey of Westcoast past, telling how it was in those Cali-love days. I’m sitting back rolling one on this joint! The shit gets real! Cahuenga Boulevard, up in Hollywood ~ the track injects that dope head boppin vibe that’s sure to resonate with the masses.

The style throughout the “Redshirt Freshman” is an anomaly in itself. ChrisGlove is onto something here. The LP is the first of its kind project that will go on forever and ever. As the project continues to add tracks at random, the price of the album will reflect the genius body of work. Actually, the great Nipsey Hustle laid the groundwork for this strategy; however, ChrisGlove is perfecting it. The album is at a premium at the moment $60 usd, and it’s expecting to reach heights of a ticket ($1k) by time it’s said and done. At current, the project bolsters 14 classics which are all produced by ChrisGlove with the assistance of Kmackondabeat behind the rhythms.

Talking about the perfect album to cruise the Pacific Coast Highway and let the top down on a sunny California afternoon. ‘Redshirt Freshman’ is the antidote that will soothe the soul. From the intro, ‘Pimp Flo’, the tone is set, it’s all about that Cali lifestyle and macking at its finest. ChrisGlove is the one to get ya mix right!  ChrisGlove goes ham on the entire project, on the track ‘Taste Love’ he gives a sexual escapade of a “G” in love with a node to Playa, with the sample and the shit will get you in the mood! Turntable decimator on the Spot! On ‘Mr. Turn Up the Bass’, ChrisGlove once again snaps with the tightest production ever seen to man and a smooth flow that can’t be denied. On “Like That”, ChrisGlove gives fans a smoker’s anthem. As I gaze at the stars in a different galaxy (do the math), ChrisGlove paints a picture of reality that touches on the inside to outside look at the industry. This one is a real eye opener, and I will let you judge it for yourself. The man is speaking the truth from his perspective.

The ‘Redshirt Freshman’ has something for everyone. Everyone, and I mean everyone has been in relationship bliss or hell. On ‘Fuck or Fight’, ChrisGlove illustrates teh story of my life. As the saying goes, Fuck, Fight or hit the turnpike is true! The one thing about it, every G wants that female they can smoke out and understand that life is full of strife, but it makes no sense to go through it with the one you love! On point, once again ChrisGlove!

The entire album is a banger! I would suggest that you put your hands on a copy before it hits that milli point! As stated earlier, the album is only available directly from ChrisGlove himself.

What began in 1983, has transformed into a legendary career. Only real lovers of WestCoast hip-hop will remember ChrisGlove started out at L.A.’s  Club Radio. It was there that a young Ice T was discovered and ended up being the MC and the legendary backdrop for the Hip-Hop Film, “Breakin”’ as well as the location of Chaka Khan’s “I Feel for You” music video. ChrisGlove has a long track record of production that includes;
