Amidst all the excitement and gratification that comes for the task of winning a national championship, it was up in the air if the LSU Women Tigers would make the traditional trip to the White House. The indecision resulted from a statement the First Lady made after the LSU Lady Tigers won the title over Iowa. Jill Biden stated that it would be nice to invite both Iowa and LSU to the White House. To state the obvious, never before in history has the runner-up been invited to the White House after a championship game.
But hold ya horses, in traditional fashion, President Joe Biden made the call and officially invited the LSU Tigers to the White House, and LSU graciously accepted. First Lady Jill Biden did apologize for her comments. The First Lady spokesperson, Vanessa Valdivia further cleared the air by stating that the First Lady meant no disrespect to LSU. In addition, Jill Biden’s gesture came as a salute to the historic game and support of all women athletes.
The Lady LSU Tigers won the national championship over Iowa Hawkeyes 102-85, in a tightly contested game. The Lady Tigers victory was the most points scored by a single team and the most points combined for a women’s national championship game. As a matter of fact, the television ratings for the game drew an audience of nearly 10 million, another record for a NCAA women’s title game.
The particulars haven’t been worked out as of yet; however, we can look forward to the visit in the next few weeks. The love and admiration for the Lady LSU Tigers has been tremendous and well deserving. The Lady Tigers cemented a great season with a triumphant win over one of the storied runs by its contenders, but LSU prevailed in dominant fashion.
