Legendary Icon and who many would consider the Queen of Rock’n Roll, Tina Turner has passed away today, May 24, 2023 at her Kusnacht home in Switzerland. A historic career which has spanned nearly 7 decades, has dazzled audiences and concert halls internationally. In 1960, Anna Mae Bullock (Tina Turner) was introduced to the world alongside her ex-husband Ike Turner. The two were a powerful duo for much of the 60’s and 70’s before their marriage ended and Tina went solo.
Tina Turner’s most notable hit was the chart-topping “What’s Love Got to Do With It”, which went on to shatter records and gave her international stardom. Voted and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 for her works with Ike Turner, and in 2021 for her individual efforts, Tina Turner was truly a Rock legend. In the late 1960’s, Ike & Tina became one of the country’s most exciting live acts with songs like “River Deep”, “Proud Mary”, and “Nutbush City Limits”.
Tina Turner was a 12x Grammy winning artist, along with the only female artist to win a Grammy in the rock, pop, and R&B category. Tina Turner received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018, and her Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1986. To date, she has sold more than 165 million records worldwide, and that number is expected to eclipse 200 million with the announcement of her passing. In recent years, her excellency has been recognized by the likes of Beyonce and Oprah Winfrey, not to mention legendary rockers and producers alike.
The on-stage persona, and pure energy Tina Turner exhorted in a live show goes unmatched~ even until this day. The spark was ignited when she teamed up with Ike Turner, “Ike and Tina Turner Revue”. Since, she rolled like a river thru audiences world-wide. The best to ever do it! Period!
