Super Bowl LVII flyover to feature  All-Women Aviators in Celebration of 50 Years of Women Flying

Three U.S. Navy tactical aircraft squadrons is set to commemorate the 50th year of Women Aviators with an integrated ceremonial diamond formation flyover of State Farm Stadium at Super Bowl LVII. The formation will fly over at the conclusion of the national anthem performed by 8x Grammy Awards winner Chris Stapleton

Sunday, February 12, 2023 will signify a plethora of firsts, but even more so, the flyover by all female pilots will be a feat that will go down in aviation history. The seven female aviators are part of a crew that includes a majority female crew and staff on the ground who maintains and works on the planes.

The four Navy pilots, Lt. Arielle Ash, Lt. Caitie Perkowski, Lt. Suzelle Thomas and Lt. Margaret Dente is set to flyover at an astounding 345 miles per hour performing what Lt. Perkowski describes as “any pilot’s dream.” Lt. Suzelle Thomas will be piloting the Navy’s newest aircraft, the F-35C Lightning II. The feat is historic in itself, Lt. Thomas is the first female to be qualified to fly the jet. The other three fighter jets will consist of two F/A-18F Super Hornets, and the EA 18G Growler.

In addition to making history, the flyover is in honor and tribute to Capt. Rosemary Mariner, the Navy’s first female pilot to fly a tactical jet. Capt. Mariner is one of the first six women to earn her Wings of Gold as a U.S. Navy Aviator, nearly 50 years ago. Capt. Mariner died in 2019, and goes down as a leading pioneer and the first to command an operational aviation squadron.

The four-aircraft diamond formation flyover will take place over State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on February 12, 2023, setting the stage to the biggest show on earth, Super Bowl LVII. The match-up between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs will be historic with several firsts. The significance of each couldn’t be more important to what makes America great, however, the contribution of women will be well represented and honored to the fullest. We salute the The Navy and the women around the world taking a stand for democracy!
