Without further ado, London based artist, Shygirl releases her long awaited debut album, “Nymph”. Released September 30th on the Because Music label, “Nymph” is a musical masterpiece of epic proportions which embodies the key ingredients of greatness. What makes an album great? I’m glad you asked! A great album is composed of indicators and measures of connectivity to ones soul. – Nymph checks the boxes of loneliness, sassiness, sadness, mystery and the excitement of realness all rolled up into one capsule that at times, could be hard to swallow.
The lead single “Firefly,” was dropped in early May, followed by the announcement of the album. From first glance, listeners were expecting a rendition of Shygirl’s 2020 ALIAS EP, which was a more club, high-energy induced project. Firefly; however, displayed a more sensual and complete Shygirl that is a roller coaster full emotions, just waiting for an release.
Not to be confined by perimeters or restraints, Nymph is definitely a declaration of arrival. The Nymph album was produced by a collective of musical masterminds, which include Sega Bodega, Arca, Blood Pop, Cecile Believe, Danny L. Harle, Arca , Mura Masa and others, who somehow bottles the emotions of the 29-year old falsetto, creating a timepiece that will live within. –
From the opening track, to the last, Nymph is what you would call, “therapy for the soul“. For those who may feel vulnerable or misunderstood, Shygirl pulls no punches, as she cleverly covers the soul with a blanked of soft, but heartfelt velvet ropes of lyrics that are felt.
Now bring on the excitement! Shygirl, is everything but, shy! The second single, released in June, ‘Come For Me’ is a reggae tone track which ushers in hi-hats and drum rhythms that clap. The Nymph album has a little something for ya’ on the track, ‘Coochie (a bedtime story) **** my favorite song on the album by the way, reflects Shygirl enticing every fantasy before saying good night. Believe me, there’s more than cookies and milk on the night stand. The sensual up-tempo track pays perfect compliment to shygirl’s laid back overtones and sweet serenade of pure estacy.
Nymph, overall is the album that will takes you where you wanna go; over the river and through the woods! And that is what intrigues, and more importantly, adds so much mystery to the forward thinking Shygirl.
