Tiger Woods and Charlie Make Father and Son Memories at 2022 PNC Championship

The saying is, ‘ A Chip off the ol’ block!’ Yes, the moniker is everything it was intended to be. But, wait; there is an awkward twist.  Charlie Woods may just be better than his father. I know, blasphemous.

Golf fans from across the globe got a chance to watch Tiger Woods and his son, Charlie participate in the PNC Championship at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes. One thing was evident at tee time, Charlie Woods is a professional golfer at the tender age of 11.  From his total domination of youth golf tournaments throughout Florida, Charlie is carving his own path in the sport of golf.

The 2022 appearance is the third time that the father and son duo has teed it up at the PNC Championship.  At 13, Charlie Woods isn’t the youngest challenger to play this year in the PNC Championship, Annika Sorenstam son Will McGee is only 11-years old. With both father and son both carrying injuries, the two vowed to not miss the all important tournament.  The PNC Championship is a sanctioned PGA Tour Championships event which dictates that riding a cart to holes is permitted.

Both Charlie and Tiger are very competitive on the golf course. Even with the reported injuries,  the father and son duo scored a 13-under 59 entering into Sunday. The duo recorded eight consecutive birdies, while fist bumping all the way into the final round on Sunday.

Sunday

On Sunday, Tiger and Charlie entered the round hoping to make an amazing comeback and win The Willie Park Belts; however, it just wasn’t in the cards.  With just two shots out of the lead, the duo would finish 20-under and 124.  But all wasn’t lost as Charlie sinked several long distance puts from 15 feet for eagle on the par 5, and 18-footer on the 12th hole.  It seemed like Team Woods just couldn’t get the ball in the cup with numerous failed attempts to make birdie.  After scoring a 59 on Saturday, the two expected a strong showing on Sunday; however, the fatigue and conditions didn’t permit a favorable result. Instead, Charlie and Tiger made light of the situation and cherished the opportunity to play together with laughter, humor and knowledge.

Both father and son were complementary of each other’s game when asked by reporters and sports writers. With 2023 lurking, Tiger Woods responded that he would take some time in hopes he will get healthier in time for tournament play.  As for Charlie, the sky’s the limit as he will develop and sharpen his skills as he makes his way through the junior leagues in hopes to turn pro at an early age like his father. Tiger stated, “Well, It was a tough year, but also one of the more rewarding years I’ve had in a while,” referring to a 2022 year with numerous challenges.

Vijay and his son Qass Singh shot a 59 on Sunday, finishing at 26-under par leaving them as the winner of the PNC Championship.
