It has been nearly a week since Pharrell Williams was named Louis Vuitton’s creative director, and instantaneously, the brand has a new feel, appeal and direction. Pharrell will succeed the ever popular Virgil Abloh who’s untimely passing sent waves throughout the fashion industry.
The appointment came as no shock to those close to the Louis Vuitton brand, as Pharrell has been in partnership since 2004. Regarded as one of the culture’s leading innovators and trendsetters for years, the appointment makes perfect sense. One must admit, Pharrell’s fashion sense has been known to be edgy and state of the art, to say the least! Recently, Pharrell has made an impact with collabo’s with brands like Chanel, Moncler, Comme des Garcons, and Adidas. Not to mention, Pharrell is the founder of the apparel lines BBC, Ice Cream and Bee Line.
In 2008, Virgil Abloh rolled the red carpet out for Pharrell with a full showcase of his millionaire sunglasses at his first fashion show at Louis Vuitton. Virgil was officially named as the Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton in 2018, and set the fashion world on fire with his uncandid ability to bring streetwear and high-end fashion to the realm of everyday people. With it being a little over a year since his passing, it seems fitting that Pharrell Williams step in as the predecessor of the Creative direction for Louis Vuitton. I think Virgil Abloh would agree wholeheartedly with the decision.
Pharrell Williams brings a fresh innovative approach to a landscape that is wide open with possibilities. Pharrell is courageous, and doesn’t mind pushing the envelope of success to the cuff of the ledge. Pharrell’s contributions to the culture has been noted and his talent is undeniable. With Pharrell’s direction, Louis Vuitton will be at the forefront of art, music, and fashion.
We love the move and look forward to Pharrell Williams and Louis Vuitton’s new direction as the Culture depends on it!Pharrell Williams joins Louis Vuitton as the new Men’s Creative Director and will debut his first collection for Louis Vuitton in June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.
